Car Characteristics
The RS01 is entirely made of carbon fiber and has a V6 engine with a turbocharger of 550bhp and competes in the Renault sport Trophy championship.
The engine is a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 unit, derived from the version used in the Nissan GT-R. Supplied by Nismo, the unit benefits from a dry sump lubrication system to handle the rigors of racing. The engine is mounted in the middle and connected to a Sadev seven-speed sequential transmission with steering wheel drive. Performance is between a GT3 and DTM car.
Built to comply with stringent 2014 LMP1 safety standards, the RS 01 is built around a complete carbon fiber monocoque, produced by Italian racing experts Dallara. The styling is clearly a development from the 2010 Renault DeZir concept. With a steel cage, and all the crash structures and safety features in place, the car weighs 1100 kg.
The brake system consists of 280 mm carbon discs, with “six-pot” brake calipers and a Bosch ABS system. Double wishbone and pushrod suspension, with Ohlins racing shock absorbers, ensures full control and adjustment. All cars in the series will be required to run on a set of specially formulated 18-inch Michelin tires.
With the first season starting in 2015, up to 20 Pro-Am teams will be able to enter the series, with races taking place in the World Series by Renault at various European circuits.
